Chartered Secretaries Southern Africa was established in 1909 and is the oldest division of ICSA. The Southern African division covers Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa and Swaziland. Our members are located in both metropolitan and country areas throughout Southern Africa.
CSSA is the leading professional qualifying body for those working in company secretaryship, governance, risk, compliance, and accounting. As the qualifying and professional body for Chartered Secretaries in Southern Africa we uphold the quality and standard of the Chartered Secretarial qualification and provide training and career support to all our members, governance professionals in the public and private sectors.
Our members possess a broad knowledge base and the flexibility to operate effectively as professional company secretaries and governance professionals in positions which cut across traditional specialist boundaries. They are valued for their practical competence in company secretaryship, corporate governance, accounting, taxation, general management and business administration.
The mission of the Institute is the promotion of company secretaryship and corporate governance. Members are required to observe the highest standards of professional conduct and ethical behaviour in all their activities, including retaining knowledge currency through continuing professional development (CPD).
As CSSA is a professional body, membership is not automatic and is granted on the basis of academic achievement, personal and professional ethics, working experience and CPD.
CSSA is a registered professional body with the South African Qualifications Authority and is an accredited quality assurance partner with the Financial and Accounting Services Sector Education and Training Authority (Fasset).
We are also represented on the King Committee and have actively been involved in all the King reports.
